Who we are: Good Mama Farm is a diversified organic farm at the base of the Tobacco Root Mountains near Harrison, Montana. We provide a variety of vegetables, pastured poultry, milk, eggs, baked goods and value-added products to customers across southwest Montana. Our goal is to make local food - good, honest, healthy food - more available to rural communities and we work with other producers in the area to help get a wide selection of products directly into the hands of consumers.

Who should apply: We are looking for hard-working applicants who love food and the land it is grown on. Interest in intensive food production, conservation and quality community relationships/customer service are required. This position will have a diverse set of tasks that will vary from day-to-day. Tasks may include vegetable production and harvest, milking goats or cows, moving livestock, feeding and watering, staffing farmers markets, working with on-farm customers and standard farm maintenance such as cleaning stalls or building/fixing fences. As a small farm, we must be jacks-of-all-trades and much of our work is done manually. Days can be long, hard and hot. Or cold - it is Montana, afterall. But the work is meaningful and rewarding and there’s almost always something good to eat. This is a challenging climate in which to grow and we utilize a wide variety of tools and techniques to get the job done. Previous farm experience is not required but a good attitude, dependability and willingness to work is a must.

The perks: If you like the outdoors, this is a fantastic place to be. To our west are thousands of acres of public lands, open to hiking, biking, hunting, fishing and horseback riding. We are close to several iconic trout streams and rivers such as the Madison, Gallatin and Big Hole. Down the road are the Norris Hot Springs and Bozeman is less than an hour away.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in local food systems, livestock and vegetable production

  • Ability to problem-solve and adapt to changing conditions and challenges

  • Able to arrive on time, appropriately dressed and prepared for changing weather

  • Self-motivated and able to stay on task

  • Able to work as a member of a team and with a diversity of people

  • Experience with customer service

  • Be able to walk, stand, kneel, sit, bend and squat for long periods of time (ex: weeding, planting, harvesting) and lift 50 pounds repetitively (ex: carrying feed bags or harvest totes)

  • Valid driver’s license
